Diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and allyship are integral parts of the work that we do with communities and the everyday practices of our research group.
All students are welcome and embraced in our team. Given our teams focus on work with Indigenous communities, our lab emphasizes supporting Indigenous students and students dedicated to developing skills and practice in allyship with Indigenous communities and scholars.
We use community based and Indigenous research methodologies with equitable funding allocations to communities for community led work and support.
We work to address injustice through work that seeks justice, reconciliation, and healing. We engage in university-Tribal partnerships that are equitable and inclusive, seeking reparations and justice.
We engage in institutional, place based, and nationwide collaboratives like the Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative at Emory, Karuk Tribe-UC Berkely Collaborative, and ICHANGES to work on these topics.
In the classroom we use collaborative and engaged pedagogies which aim to minimize power imbalances and support more equitable outcomes for students. They also aim to lift up the diverse lived experiences and perspectives that students bring to the classroom.
We are active learners and reflexive in our process that is continuously imperfect and evolving.
